9-11 Highland Road, Southsea
Ice Bar finally opened on 11th December 2016 after many years of delays. This street corner bar was an independently-run business, situated at the eastern end of Southsea’s prime drinking and dining district. Aimed at a varied clientele, from students to local residents, the premises consisted of two rooms – one housing the bar counter and a second, larger area on a raised deck which was home to the main seating area.
The pub struggled to survive from the outset – probably due to the business not quite knowing who its target customer base was – as well as having the appearance of a bar that had obviously been opened on a limited budget and was run by staff who appeared to lack a suitable degree of business acumen. The pub served its last customers just eight months after opening its doors.
