Retrospective planning permission has now been applied for and the City planners have also advised the owners that further permission shall be required in order to install television screens on the bar's first floor terrace. To have failed to apply for planning permission when your establishment stands adjacent to the City Council offices may be considered by some as being somewhat naive! 7th Apr 10: As previously mentioned on this page, JD Wetherspoon's rumoured aquisition of the former Chicago Rock Cafe on Palmerston Road now seems to be confirmed, with a target opening date of 4th June. However, no planning applications to this effect have yet been received by the city council. Watch this space. 23rd Mar 10: The Wig and Pen, Landport Terrace, has recently been taken over by new licensees Nigel and Sue Dilley and is now owned by Southern Counties Taverns.
